I’m originally from Ontario, and moved out to BC over 6 years ago with my husband. I absolutely love living on the island and all that it has to offer. My husband and I are both very active people. We are avid hikers; dog lovers and try to be outside as much as possible. Being outdoors for myself has always been an integral part of my life. I truly believe being outdoors not only relaxes our mind, body and spirit, but it also helps us connect more to the environment and to discover and learn about all the different wonders it has to offer. Working in a nature centre not only allows me to continuously be outdoors, it also gives me the ability to see how the environment acts as a ‘third teacher,’ by giving the children many opportunities to learn and discover in such a pristine and positive environment. I agree with the statement that if children connect with nature and develop a relationship with it, they will grow up to love the environment, and they will be that much more likely to advocate for the protection of the environment.
